Description

Rotating Christmas Tree Star

Decorative star as a rotating christmas tree topper. The christmas tree star consists of 4 parts, is made to rotate by a small DC motor and has the following dimensions (width x height x depth): 16.6 cm x 25.5 cm x 2.0 cm

The following DC motor is used (3 V DC, 15 rpm):
https://www.amazon.de/dp/B085NL8Z2T

Besides the DC motor you need 2 M2 countersunk screws (length: 6-8 mm), a 2-wire cable (copper wire, e.g. 2x0.14 mm²; length: >20 cm) and a 3 V DC voltage source (DC power supply or batteries).

The following devices/components are suitable as voltage source:

3 V DC power supplies:

Battery holder with switch (2x AA batteries):
https://www.amazon.de/dp/B093F6JN6P

(I use the variant with the battery holder.)

Assembly

The required printed parts are mentioned in the respective steps (in brackets).

  1. Thread the cable through the small hole in the holder (1_Holder) from below.
  2. Strip the upper end of the cable and solder it to the DC motor.
  3. Place the DC motor in holder (1_Holder).
  4. Secure the cover (2_Cover) over the motor with 2 M2 countersunk screws at top end of the holder (1_Holder) so that the motor is completely enclosed.
  5. Place the hub (3_Hub) onto the drive shaft of the motor.
  6. Place the star (4_Star) on the hub (3_Hub) (with some glue if necessary).
  7. Connect the other end of the cable to a 3 V DC power source.
  8. Place the assembled star onto the top of your christmas tree and turn on the power source. Done. Have fun!
