Description

I printed a couple of copies of @Adam 's most excellent rock scent-training capsule recently: https://www.printables.com/model/295199-scent-trainer-rock and was impressed with both the concept and execution.

As an aside - I've also designed some non-magnetic dog scent training capsules that vent through the lid.  Choose what style you want between these magnetic ones or the non-magnetic design at: https://www.printables.com/model/1023483-dog-scent-training-capsules

I wanted to print the magnetic capsule @Adam also designed, but the magnet void was way too large for the ones I had on-hand, and I also didn't want to fool around with pausing prints to insert magnets.  So, borrowing HEAVILY from Adam's design I conjured up a design that has a magnet void in the bottom of the capsule body where a magnet is placed post-print (with a bit of superglue if required).

This design is for a 6 x 2mm disc magnet, but I have paramatised the design so that I can easily produce designs for other sized magnets in a moment if required.  I've included STEP files of the Cap and Body if anyone wants to fool around with the design at all.

I've printed a couple of dozen of these now.  They print well in PLA.  The magnet void in PETG is a touch tight though (quite a tight fit).

My print parameters:

  • Filament:  PLA or PETG
  • Layer height: 0.2mm works like a charm.  The threads action is quite smooth.
  • Perimeters:  3 or 4 depending on how you roll.
  • Infill: 30% Cubic (there's not much infill so the density doesn't really affect print times or weights).

Other Materials:

  • Magnets: Disc shaped magnet 6mm diam x 2mm thick for this design - I can quickly produce designs for other sizes if required.
  • A drop of superglue (or similar) if required.

Update 2nd October 2024:

  • Added an additional body STL to accommodate a 6 x 3mm magnet as requested by @Adam_H_1275988
