Description
Bandsaw blades should be properly tensioned before turning on the saw for optimal performance, accurate cuts, and to ensure safety during operation. They should be de-tensioned after use to prevent the blade from stretching and weakening over time. I designed this magnet to be a visual and physical part of my workshop processes, so I never again destroy a $140 carbide tipped bandsaw blade by turning on the saw with an un-tensioned blade. Place the magnet in front of the blade when it's un-tensioned, and then move it next to the tensioner when the blade is tensioned.
The magnets are embedded, so you will need to pause the print to insert them. I know that's not the easiest way, but it's the right way, and it's not difficult to do. Small neodymium magnets are dangerous for children and pets, and the embedded approach also ensures that you have a softer layer of plastic between the magnet and your machine. In Bambu Studio, you add the pause by right clicking the slider bar and selecting “Add Pause.” It's a similar approach to change filament for the top layers.
This print uses four 10x3mm magnets. Since I have found some variation between magnet brands, these are the ones I use that fit this print just right: https://amzn.to/3XYnUjY (Amazon Associate link). Make sure to insert all of them with consistent polarization.
I recommend ironing the top layer, which will make the black border and letters look much better. I was getting too many little gaps in the letters without ironing, but honestly, nobody probably would have ever noticed. The sign shown in the pictures was made with yellow Bambu PETG Basic and black Bambu PETG Carbon Fiber.
