Description
I've always thought typical ring boxes were too thick and cumbersome, so when it came time to propose to my girlfriend, I decided to model a ring box that held the ring sideways and popped the ring up when opened.
Edit: I've now added a blank option, with no letters, and a step file so you can more easily edit the tolerances and ring holder dimensions.
The ring box works fine to print in place on my Prusa, but you may need to tweak some settings to get the tolerances to work for you.
I printed it with support under the hinge for the ring holder bit, but it may be less work to just let the bottom layers hold everything up.
There may be a bit of crunching upon opening if you don't remove the material that'll stay behind in the hinges, but I was able to remove enough to get a silent opening with a bit of patience.
The linkage prints separately, and clips into place pretty easily.
The spot for the ring is sized to the ring I'm using, so for most thinner rings you should be able to get away with just resizing the hole in the popup.
I also designed a carrying case to keep things a bit more discrete and secure.
