Either modify an existing printed part, or print this model with standard RatRig printed part settings and recommended materials. It's really easy to modify an existing part and likely has negligible structural impact.
Modifying an existing part
Carefully cut through the 3mm x 3mm cross section illustrated (red lines) with a fine-toothed hand saw or similar, then use pliers to snap off the stump (already snapped-off stump circled with green line).
Installing the toolhead
During a build, I suggest you fully assembly the toolhead and get the wiring sorted. Here's my fully-wired toolhead. Don't tie the hot end heater and thermistor wires down so there's space to attach the belts once fitted to the printer.
Note: the main bundle going through the zip tie to the left of the limit switch is a bit bulky and I had to adjust it later.
Step 1: detach the Orbiter
Note: I have the Orbiter Sensor installed. The procedure is the same with or without the sensor.
Undo the green screw a few turns so that it's no longer threaded into the standoff behind.
Remove the red screws.
You should not need to undo any wiring.
Step 2: loosen the part fan shroud
You should not need to undo any wiring.
Loosen the indicated screws a few turns so that they are no longer threaded into the inserts in the part fan shroud:
Then remove the two screws holding the part fan shroud from the back:
Finally remove the screw in the middle behind the hot end. It can be reached with a ball-end tool when the hot end sock is removed:
Now your toolhead should look like this:
Step 3: position the toolhead on the x-gantry carriage
Position the toolhead above the x-gantry, with the carriage off to the right.
Holding the detached part fan shroud out of the way, lower the toolhead towards the rail.
Slide the carriage right to left towards the toolhead so it slots in under the toolhead plate.
Here you can see the carriage partially slotted in:
Step 4: attach the toolhead plate to the carriage
Rest the Orbiter to one side. I used some paper towel to keep grease from the rail off the Orbiter and protect from scratches.
Attach the toolhead plate to the carriage with the four screws inidcated:
Step 5: re-attach the part fan shroud
Hold the part fan shroud in place and loosely tighten the indicated tool plate screws:
Loosely tighten the indicated rear screws:
Loosely tighten the middle screw behind the hot end:
This screw can be reached with a ball-end tool when the hot end sock is removed. Be careful not to apply any pressure to the hot end:
Now go back and tighten all the screws holding the part fan shroud to final torque. Do not over-tighten as you might damage the printed parts.
Step 6: re-attach the Orbiter
Carefully move the Orbiter into position, taking particular care with the PTFE tube that connects to the hot end.
Loosely attach the standoff screw (red).
Then tighten the main Orbiter mounting screws (green) to final torque.
Then tighten the standoff screw (red) to final torque.
Step 7: complete!
The toolhead has been attached to the gantry. Now complete any further tasks such as attaching belts.
Removing the toolhead
Perform the steps for attaching the toolhead, but in reverse. Of course, you can only remove the toolhead this way if you are using the modified rr_toolhead_vc4_back part.
