Description

I wanted to cool down my pool water overnight and have a waterfall for fun (and water sound :)) during the day or night.

I wanted to create a pool fountain that satisfies the following:

  • can easily be plugged into an existing pump hose (threaded end)
  • it's simple to print - printed without supports, 4 hours in total with Bamboo X1 Carbon
  • water shoots from the outside of the pool and it's not in the way of kids. The fountain head is not visible inside the pool which, in my opinion, looks even more interesting
  • fountain doesn't decrease the flow of the water and doesn't increase the pressure on the pump. I tried some other models and it almost invalidated the effect of the skimmer due to low flow. I didn't notice that with this model however that might depend on the pump's power.
  • can be mounted and dismounted very easily - hose weight keeps the holder on the pool. The hose with the fountain is very easily mounted to the holder. No need to screw to fix it.

Compatibility

  • It's compatible with 1.5'' threaded end of the pool hose. I tested with Intex-provided hose, but I believe Bestway pools follow the same standard
  • Tested with Intex sand pump with a flow of 4500l/h
  • The holder of the fountain is designed for an Intex 58mm rounded frame
  • Potentially not compatible with rounded pools due to holder design that expects a straight pipe to hold on to. I don't have one so hard to say if tolerances will allow it. Probably can be modified quickly to allow it

Printing

  • Print 2 hooks, 1 clamp, and 1 fountain (pick size XS to L)
  • No support is needed for any of the parts
  • Print fountain head with the threaded end placed on the print plate

Assembly

  • Connect 2 hooks with the clamp with 2 x M5x16
  • Place one rubber seal inside the fountain's threaded end (check photos). I borrowed one extra from the drain outlet of my pump (Alternatively, I designed an o-ring you can print with TPU https://www.printables.com/model/947839-intex-sand-pump-o-ringl-ring). Connect the threaded end of the hose with the fountain.
  • Put the fountain between hooks and hang it on the pool from the outside

Fountain sizes

  • I provided 4 sizes: XS, S, M, L - referring to the opening size of the fountain. The bigger the opening, the water shots shorter due to the lower pressure. Adjust to the power of your pump. I shared photographs of my 4500l/h pump and differences. If you have the more powerful pump, take the bigger opening (L) otherwise water might be shooting outside of your pool.
  • In the photos you can find the examples of XS (shoots highest) and L (lowest). That's with 4500l/h pump in filtering mode. Circulation mode increases flow by 40-70% thus the size of the fountain.

Size L

Cooling and other features

  • Running fountain during the night, in my tests, can lower the temperature of the pool by 3-5 celsius degrees although the nights were very hot during testing.  The bigger the flow, the better. The same applies for the temperature difference, that's obvious.
  • This helps with the aeration if you need it. Note that aeration increases pH due to the outgassing of CO2 while it doesn't increase Total Alkalinity, however better to look for chemistry advice elsewhere :).
