Description

I made this design inspired by the traditional hand fans made of wood and paper (or fabric):

The front and back guards are heavier, protecting the blades when the fan is closed, but also adding some weight so that it can be swiftly opened with one hand.

By keeping some distance between the blades, these can be printed in more than one color and with different patterns, even if you don't have a multi-color printer.

Fan size (length of the blade):

  • S - 14,5 cm
  • M - 19 cm

For more designs check out my Hand Fans Collection!

UPDATE 24/08/2025: Extended design, for a better grip. Compatible with the original model, simply add two blades and replace the rod with the EXT version. Thanks Roseanne for your feedback! Would you like to see this upgrade in my other designs? Let me know :)

UPDATE 22/06/2025: Uploaded new 19cm version after a few requests for a larger model. I know it's not easy to scale up the fan while keeping it light and functional, so if there is demand for it I will look into making an even larger model. Feel free to share your feedback.

UPDATE 17/09/2024: Uploaded V2 of the Hinge Rod and Cap for a stronger snap-fit connection. The new design is compatible with the original blades and covers.

Printing advice
  • All the parts can be printed without support.
  • The fan from the cover picture was printed with two colors by adding a “Color Change” step.
    • Front Cover & Blades → ⬜🟫
    • Back Cover → 🟫⬜🟫

  • For a left-hand version, mirror the blades and the back cover before printing.
  • For better results, make sure the printing seams are not on the sliding surface of the pin (see picture below). You can use the “Seam Painting” function to block/enforce the seam location.
Assembly instructions (see picture)
  1. Align all the blades, including the front and back covers.
  2. Insert the hinge rod
  3. Add the hinge caps

Enjoy! 🪭

Note: The fan will unfold more smoothly as you open and close it a few times.
