Description
A must have tool for any hobbyist. I made this as compact as possible without sacrificing strength. You can find the 8 x 3 mm magnet you will need from any local Harbor Freight or on Amazon. It's really handy when you are working on things that contain small screws and need to retrieve them once you inevitably drop them somewhere your fingers won't fit.
Assembled it's 40 mm tall and 20 mm wide. Fully extended you will get over 100mm of reach. The model was designed to be printed in 3 parts. There is a knurled screw-on bottom cup. Innards with the telescoping pieces, and ribbed cap that's a snap fit. Make sure to really screw the bottom on tight! Add a dab of super glue into the cup before magnet insertion.
The tolerances I used should work well for everyone. The more tuned your printer is the better operation you will get. Also the lower layer height you use the smoother telescoping action you will get. If you're having issues printing the innards, slow the print speed down a bit and retry. There is a small accommodation for elephants foot as that will effect operation and full extension potential. No supports needed. To get the smoothest walls possible I ran the scarf seam option in Orca.
For storage you can literally stick it anywhere. Even with the cap on it the magnet will hold its own weight to anything metal! Post a make with your achieved extension length if ya can! Thanks!
