Description

This carving tool is a geometry that allows you to easily create quick-latch pockets into your parts. Like a cookie cutter. 🍪

Easily create a latch to firmly and reliably join two parts, while allowing the user to do and undo the latch without any tool.

This design allows to adjust the latch tension to your needs, allowing to compensate for creep deformation which could eventually loosen any latch over time.

Download the sample file to check for latch properties.

Usecase instructions

To use this tool on your parts, just import it into your assembly and subtract it from the bulk geometry.

Look at the following scheme to perfectly match the origin of the tool.

Check also the required bulk measures to fit the cutter into your project:

This latch uses one single m3x20 bolt.

  • For every latch you make you will need to print one m3 pin, and insert it in the bottom part via the dedicated channel.

  • Once the pin is in position, insert the screw, and tighten it as much as you like.

(since the screwing operation can be tricky, I'm providing you also a KeyTool to keep the pin in position while putting the screw in)

Printing instructions

The resulting parts can be printed in many different orientation.
By the way some orientations might require supports.

Always check for your model to be adequately supported.

For instance the top part of the sample file needs to be printed upside down, so remember to enable support in these areas.
