Bungee-sprung Coupling, Self-Resetting

July 20, 2024
Description
Draft for a bungee-sprung coupling
- that will self-reset into place after being bumped
- (or at least will be easy to reset)
Background:
- Problem to be solved: Some (protuding) parts of assemblies might get subjected to external forces so strong that it would be unreasonable to design them to withstand these.
- Solution:
- Accept that the assembly will be moved out of its proper position by external forces, avoiding damage that way.
- Incorporate a bungee cord that resets the assembly into position, or at least supports an easy manual reset.
The coupling includes a large central hole to allow the routing of cables in addition to the installation of the bungee cord.
The part is intended as a demonstration of the design principles and not really designed to go into a specific assembly.
The OpenSCAD source code is included, so spinning off modified parts fitting a specific real assembly shouldn't be too hard.
