Description

Four parts are needed to make this device carry my soda stream CO2 tanks and get them refilled. I have four, and it is always awkward to carry them in one hand (I use a cane.) 

The tanks are heavy when full, so I made this device reasonably robust. I printed it in PLA, but if you are concerned about its strength, move to a stronger filament like ABS, ASA, or PC. A Carbon Fibre material would be super strong as well.

It's strong enough as it is with the parts just glued together with your favourite super glue, but the real strength lies in an internally threaded rod that carries the load from the handle.

It works because the tapered plug fits into the bottom of the caddy and buts up to a matching taper on the inside. The threaded rod runs through it, and the handle extension into the hole at the bottom of the handle. You will need an M8 threaded rod of 31.5 cm in length or a 1 foot 5/16 threaded rod. Both will work fine. You'll also need two washers and two fibre-lock nuts.

The best way to assemble it is to put a locknut on the bottom of the threaded rod and a washer on top, slide the tapered plug over it and assemble all the parts. Holding it upside down, lower the rod through them all. It should come out just above the base of the handle. You'll need a socket (1/2 inch or metric equivalent) and an extension to stop the tapered plug nut from rotating. Tighten down the nut and washer at the handle, but be careful not to overtighten.

With the metal rod installed, there should be no problem transporting four cylinders. Depending on how you arrange the parts on your printer, you will need to use some supports when printing. I printed mine with some random PLA with a 20% honeycomb infill, four walls and a 0.2 mm layer.
