[UPDATE Aug 13, 2024] Added an alternate spring geometry (top), in case you want to experiment with alternate TPU material.  It has a larger range of stretch and may offer lower stiffness (which is good in some cases). Tested well on Spiderflex 85A. Experiment with both and see which one you like better with your TPU.

This automatic paracord tensioner can be used with a TPU “spring” that makes it an automatic tensioner, or it can be used without the “spring”, your choice. 

To complement this tensioner, you can use this along with my mini paracord winder+tensioner - they work well together!

Key Features:

1. Quick and easy print with no supports.
2. If you choose to print the TPU spring, the spring loading it provides allows it to work against gravity.  Without the spring you'll need to engage the cam manually.
3. The cam has a built-in quick release lever.
4. Compact size and strong - about the size of your car's key fob.
5. Tested to hold over 50 lbs. (22.6kg+).

Many Uses:

1. Set up a clothesline by tying up against nearby trees.
2. Set up an overhead tarp for shade.
3. Set up guy lines.
4. Bundle camping items together.

To Use:

1. Open the cam as wide as possible. It opens just enough to pass your 4mm paracord into the cam's teeth.
2. Pass the cord through the open end of the tensioner.
3. The spring loaded cam automatically engages to start tensioning the cord.
4. Pull up the slack until you get the desired tension.

Printing Recommendations:

1. Print with ASA because it is most likely used outdoors.
2. Print with at least 6 perimeters and 25% triangular infill, and 6 top and bottom layers.
3. 0.2mm layer, 0.4mm nozzle.
4. For the (optional) TPU spring, use 85A durometer or equivalent - highly recommended to print around 15mm/s max speed, and slow it down for the post.  Also print 3-4 at the same time for best results. (Tested with Spiderflex TPU).

Other things you'll need:

1. 1x M3x12 socket head cap screw.
2. 1x M3 hex lock nut (do not use a regular hex nut - it will come loose over time).
3. 1x M3 washer required (up to 6.5mm outer diameter.)
