Recirculating Carbon Filter Sized for Adventurer 5M DIY Enclosure

This model is a recirculating carbon air filter design sized for use with a Flashforge Adventurer 5M with DIY enclosure. It uses two 5015 blowers.  No hardware or supports needed for print.  Fans are retained by printed pockets with posts and a slide lid.  Carbon media is retained with a slide lid.  There is a hole on the top for routing the wiring.  Exhaust air flows out the bottom, so it should have no impact on the build surface. 

Depth, front to back, is less than 45mm, not counting feet (if used).  Height is 200mm and width is 133mm.  This permits placement against a side panel, left or right side, without interfering with build platform movement.  Two versions of the filter body are included.  One version includes feet for improved stability.  (Pictures show an older version of feet-25mm, current version are shorter-15mm to ensure build plate clearance)

If your printer shakes violently, you may want to anchor the filter in place with velcro, servo tape, or small magnets.   Having said that, during testing, the footed version was stable even with the printer shaking its table.

The media retaining screen model appears as a solid.   Print with multiple outer perimeters and zero top and bottom layers, using a honeycomb infill or equivilant.  

Elephant's foot bottom layer expansion can make for a too tight fit on some parts, as printed.  Depending on your printer settings, you may (or may not) need to trim edges of the slip fit lids and screens for a usable but tight fit, using a deburring tool, file or sandpaper. 

The designed media volume allows use of approximately 344cc of activated carbon pellets.  Be sure to use media that has not been acid treated.   Test media before use to ensure it will not contribute to developement of surface rust.

Phosphate-free premier activated carbon”, “100% natural walnut shell carbon ”.  It is a 4mm extruded pellet & arrives as 5 1lb. zippered mesh bags.  It is somewhat dusty, but that is to be expected.
