Compact winch for 6mm rope

Rope winch

Compact and strong winch for ~6mm rope (the hole in the drum is 7mm). Back and side of the frame has holes for mounting. Perfect for use with this: single or double pulley.

Additional hardware

The following hardware is needed in addition to the printed parts:

• 1x 608zz bearing.

• 1x M8 bolt (>110mm long with locking nut as main axle.

• 1x M8 bolt (>80mm long) with locking nut and one washer for the handle.

• 1x M6mm (>30mm long) with locking nut for the ratchet pawl.

Printing

Orient the parts like this for printing:

Use many walls for strength.

Consider avoiding PLA if the winch shall be constantly loaded. The drum might fail under constant load.

Assembly

• Press the bearing into the hole.

• Install the ratchet pawl with the M6 bolt (orient it as in the picture below).

• (option) mount the frame to any structure with bolts or screws.

• Insert the drum.

• Insert the “plug” part of the frame to fix the drum.

• Mount the handle on the crank.

• Mount the crank with the main bolt through the drum.

Note: As the holes for mounting the winch frame to any structure are behind the winch drum (not all), you could mount the winch frame with screws or bolts prior to mounting the drum.

All mounting holes are accessible for a screw driver through openings in the frame.

Note: The plug may be glued to the frame (not necessary).
