Spool generator

This thread spool generator lets you procedurally shape sewing spools (bobbins).

If you want to create your own spool with different measurements, you can find instructions in the Asset Installation section. The adjustable overhang angle makes the design print friendly and should cover most sewing machine spool sizes.

The bobbin that is already provided fits for sewing machines 'class 747'.

Sewing machine Class 747 (german: "Nähmaschine Klasse 747")

Model: Viktoria 2200 Fashion (Bobbin parameters: height (h) 11.4mm, diameter (w) 19.8mm, inner hole diameter (id) 6.5mm)

Asset Installation

1. Download sewing_spool_generator.blend, move it to an empty Folder and remember the directory
2. Follow the steps or the tutorial below
3. Input your parameters

Adjustments

be aware of the tolerances of your print settings. In my case the printed result has an offset/tolerance of 0.2mm (your offset could be different or already perfect), the tolerance should therefore be distracted from the parameters (Example: a spool with a desired height of 10mm would become 9.8mm. This is relevant for the parameters Height, Diameter and Inner hole)

1. Apply the modifier
2. (Rename model according to input data)
3. Press TAB key to enter edit mode
4. Delete interior faces: Select → select all by trait → Press X → Faces
5. Press A to select all
6. Press M to merge vertices by distance (set to 0.01 mm) hit enter
7. Select the edge loops like shown on image 1 (alt + left-click first loop, then shift + alt + left-click)
8. Press CTRL + B to bevel the edges (press C to limit the bevel)
9. In the bevel-menu, set values according to the video (image 2)
10. Select the model → File → Export → STL → export to desired folder → slice and proceed printing.
