Overview

This is a basic frame meant to be used with the Module form of the Waveshare 12.48" E-Ink Display, especially when using it for an InkyCal setup or the MagInkCal display. While the module ships with some structure of its own, unfortunately, the standoffs that secure the rear piece of acrylic aren't long enough to accommodate more than just a Raspberry Pi 0. This makes it difficult to add a PiSugar to the back of the Pi, so this frame not only encloses your display, but it also adds a bit more room to accommodate the PiSugar's PCB.

Printing

The whole frame exceeds the print volume of most printers, and even if it didn't, the extra lip would mean a bunch of supports, which would suck. Instead, the frame has been broken into 4 pieces that can each be printed without any supports and then assembled and held together by 12mm (14 works too) M3 screws that fit into the standoffs.

An unfortunate effect of this construction is that the overlapping pieces don't make a perfect seam against each other, but without the split, it wouldn't fit on the bed.

The print in the photos was done with a 0.6mm nozzle on a 0.2mm layer height. During prototyping, I was also printing with the 0.4mm (Draft) default profile and had success with fit.

Options

The “Right” piece has a hole in it to allow a cable to pass through. If you don't need the passthrough, you can simply print 2 of the “Left” piece.

If you've got a big printer, I've included the “Full Assembly” frame for download, but you'll need supports for the ridge.

Customization

I've included both STEP and F3D files in case you want to customize it further. Check out the parameters when you do. I won't give a full overview, but if you know how to use parameters, you should be able to make lots of tweaks.
