Bowtie router inlay template set - 2 sizes

This is a set of 2 router templates for a bowtie inlay or bowtie joint :

• 1 template to route the negative part of the inlay (bowtie_template_ech1_negatif)
• 1 template to route the bowtie itself : you still have to cut 2 tabs of the bowtie and sand them flush (bowtie_template_ech1_positif)

Size of the bowtie : 

• 120 mm length
• around 48 mm width
• 30 mm at the smallest width
• 4 mm radius in the corner

If you use both templates, make sure to use an 8 mm router bit with a 14 mm guide bushing or copy ring to have the matching radius.

The height of the templates is 6 mm, so it can be used with an 5 mm guide bushing. 

I fixed the templates to the wood with double sided tape, but there are also 4 holes in the corners. If necessary, you can drill them to size and countersink them.

By tweaking the outer ring of the guide bushing with masking tape, I was able to ajust the tolerances and mill the joint in cherry wood.

I added two templates with approximately half the size of the first ones.
