Description
This is a script for OpenSCAD to create a modern street sign as used in the Netherlands and in Europe. I used it with a filament swap. The script and the resulting 3D model are Public Domain.
OpenSCAD is free software: https://openscad.org/
The script requires a OpenSCAD version of at least from 2024, and the options “textmetrics” and “manifold” have to be turned on.
The script is written to be used with the “Customizer” of OpenSCAD. The “Customizer” should be on the right side. It can be enabled in the menu.
The script is in the file “Street sign.zip”. Be sure to unzip/unpack the zip file before using the script.
The script uses the Overpass semi-bold font. It is the best font for this design in my opinion.
Origin of the font: https://fonts.google.com/specimen/Overpass
License of the font: Open Font License.
The font is included in the zip file.
The size for the plate can be set by the length of the plate or by setting the font size.
A second (smaller) line of text can be added.
The output can be a 2D output, which can be exported as a svg file. That svg file can be used in an other design (for example a light box) or directly in the slicer.
The easiest way to turn a plate into a fridge magnet is by printing a thin plate and using magnetic tape.
The license for the script and the resulting stl files is CC0 (Public Domain). You may print the street signs and sell them.
