Description
The Mirrycle bicycle mirror on my bike breaks because of people bumping into the mirror. I created a stronger TPU replacement:
The part breaks where ‘nut’ is inserted in the plastic rod:
Because it's flexible, the part will bend when bumped into and go back to it's original position.
Needed: TPU!!!! This model needs to get a wing nut squished into it. This will not work with PETG, PLA and other non-flex filaments.
Extra needed:
M4 12.5mm washer max 1.5mm thick
M4 wing nut
Depending on what kind of threads on bolts your country is using:
Where I live, the metric system is used. I bought a M4 metric wing nut. Unfortunately the bolt in the Mirrycle does not seem to have metric thread so I guess it's Imperial. So I also had to buy a replacement M4 bolt.
I chose to print the part with 0.6mm nozzle at 0.3mm layer height and 100% infill.
Supports are not needed
You need to pause the print when the socket for the washer is ready. Then apply some glue with glue stick on both sides of the washer and insert the washer in the socket.
Then resume printing.
During printing, the additional washer needs to be placed in the blue spot. After printing the wing nut needs to be pushed into the printed part like the green marking:
2 versions are added:
One which resembles the original part as close as possible
One modified part which is slightly shorter, has a thicker rod which can be inserted into the handlebar. Also it has a ridge/ring which slides around the handle bar
