Description
Being in Alaska, Where the state bird is the Mosquito, known to carry away pets and small children, I absolutely LOVE the invention of the Thermacell. They can be a real life saver!
But unfortunatally, they have a design flaw; exposed non locking switches. Specifically the butane flow switch.
Nothing is worse than dragging one of these out and finding that the gas release switch has been slid to ON in your pack/bag/truck/ tool box, or where ever. Turn that switch on and the butane flows, and it will empty itself. Not good when the “birds” are carting your kids off!
This models is a simple slide on, clip in place cover, that is reversible. One way it holds the switch OFF, flip it and it holds the switch ON. Works perfectly fine simply in plastic spring pressure, or throw a bungee(hair tie) or rubber band onto it for added security.
Designed to be printed on edge, with the OFF upside down on the build plate, should run with very few supports under the side hooks, possibly the letters, and depending on your flow/bridging, in the switch recess.
Last photo shows half over the switch, it slides on the unit from below, then spring pressure of the frame allow it to be pulled out and up over the switch. Even with a rubber band, you can easily pull it over the switch and slide down for using the unit. Either leave the switch exposed or remove completely and revers to lock it ON.
I have included both models with and without the side hooks, With and without ON(Just OFF text) and both versions with and without the text, in case anyone outside the USA/Non english speaking, wants to add their own instead.
I ran about 12% gyroid infill, 4 top/bottom layers, 2 walls 0.8mm wide(0.4 nozzle), 0.3mm layers, its a fast easy print. Brim might help depending on your bed, the frame “arms” aren't a lot of surface area. I used PLA, in my opinion the softer flex of PETG is too soft for most compliant/springy models. PLA is a stiffer spring at the same thickness.
