Eli Lilly Autopen Holder Redux

A while back I had made up an organizer for some auto-injector pens that required gluing together. My originals were still working fine to this day, but I wanted to remake it using Fusion instead of Tinkercad to see what I could do with the concept. Still clamps on to any autopen with a ∅19mm barrel and at least 84mm length, like the common pen Eli Lilly uses for most of their injectables (Monjaro, Trulicity, Emgality, etc). 

The geometry is now well optimized so it prints mostly contiguous lines, being stronger with less material. I also did away with needing multiple pieces and requiring glue by putting a really neat print-in-place hinge design in it that's buttery smooth to operate. Nothing but straight-line floating overhangs with flat surfaces instead of the typical fully round design.

I ended up making three sizes - one for eight pens, one for twelve pens, and because we always get our refills with a pen or two left to use, a fourteen pen version as well. I can now load up a three-month supply for two people in a space barely bigger than a one-month box takes up.

Print two and for the top one flip it over. The arms are retained by a little tab on the printed bottom of the piece. Simply push the arms 90° out and push the two parts together.  There's a 0 tolerance friction fit with plenty of contact area so it's plenty stable and only gets stronger when loaded up with pens. If you want to store it away, just pinch and pull the arms out, fold it up, and it takes up virtually no room.

Load your pens up by staggering them, and if you printed the full-size version you can stick two on the end to make it more stable.

I print these in the color of the strength flags on the drug, so in this case a blue PETG one for the 12.5mg and a grey PLA one for the 2.5mg. Both are snappy and work great! I suggest printing with a line width of 0.42mm and a layer height of 0.2mm.
