Description

Introduction

The base of this design is a OpenSCAD script. A 3mf and stl file are provided, without logo or text. The 3mf and stl file have been generated by the script.

When the script is used with OpenSCAD, then a custom text and a custom logo can be printed on the top slab.

OpenSCAD

OpenSCAD is free software: https://openscad.org/
To use the script in OpenSCAD, be sure to first unzip/unpack the file “Foldable Cup Holder.zip” before using it.
No programming knowledge is required. OpenSCAD has a “Customizer” which makes it possible to adjust the design in a easy way.
The logo is a svg file. It should be in the same folder as the script. Not all svg files are accepted. It should be a simple and straightforward svg file with only paths.

Used font in the script

The script uses the font Mesmerize Semi-Condensed Semi-Bold. It is a font with the license CC0 (Public Domain) and it is included in the zip file.

Printing

The logo and text can be printed with a filament swap or with a multi-color printer.
When the 3mf file is used for the slicer, then the parts are separated and the needed parts can be selected. Most slicers can also split the parts of a stl file.
The design is for a layer height of 0.20 mm. I used PETG filament with 100% infill.

Assembling

The tolerances are for a modern accurate 3D printer, but they can be changed in OpenSCAD. The cap has a tight fit in the bottom axle. I added a little glue on the inside of the bottom axle and then I used a hammer to hit the cap into it. I tried it first without hammer, but then the glue already fixed the cap before the cap was fully in the bottom axle.

Design

I wrote the script and I made the axle in a way that it can be 3D printed and I tested the functionality and the strength of the axle. However, the foldable design already exists. In The Netherlands it is known as a “beer fan” (in Dutch: “bierwaaier”) and it is sold as a promotional product: https://www.twinpromotions.nl/
