Description
I have a Rigol DHO914 Oscilloscope and I find the fan noise annoying so I designed a rear mounted adapter to mount a larger fan, using the VESA mount screws on the rear of the scope.
I used a Noctua slim (15mm) 92mm fan NF-A9x14 PWM but just used the black and yellow wires to connect to the original 8V supply in the scope.
I designed a finger guard with the same hexagon pattern as the scope but this proved to make the fan noisier so I used a standard wire finger guard bought from Amazon (82.5mm hole spacing) this did not increase the fan noise, which is virtually silent.
There is a version with cut away sides that would be used in conjunction with a VESA mount to allow better airflow.
The final print was done in grey Overture easy Nylon but it can be printed out of any material I suppose.
On the medium mount there is a slot in the side of the mount to take the fan wires through on of the holes on the back to connect to the fan connector, you will need to re-terminate the wires to do this and, of course, void your warranty by opening the scope, this you do at your own risk.
I did some testing by stalling the small interior fan with a length of wire (or a paperclip?) and powered the fan from an external supply set to 8V and the scope ran at the same temperature or maybe even a couple of degrees cooler.
