Description
my sister needed a pencil cup so I decided to make a variation of my gridfinity tray into one. like that, this has an outer, gridfinity-compatible base, and three removable inner cups. the two smaller internal cups are identical.
for visual interest, I added a hexagon pattern, but a straight hexagon seemed too mechanical. so, I removed some of the hexagons to make it feel more organic. each side is different.
the large and small cup sets match—you could print two small and one large as pictured, or you could print two large, or even four small cups.
obviously, the triangular cups are not compatible with the rectangular/square cups.
I removed the partitions inside the outer cup—they were a holdover from my fibonacci tray, and didn't help anything, in this case.
that freed me to start adding more different inner cups—which I'm still working on.
printing should be straightforward. I left my settings as they were—5% gyroid, and three wall loops—and they all printed fine.
a 256mm x 256mm build plate is not large enough to use print by object on all parts, even if you group the inner cups and print them in the same color. so, in my 3MF file, I separated the internal and external cups onto separate plates so that they can be easily printed in different colors.
as always, I've included STEP files in case anyone wants to make modifications.
