Then we took the Mesh and clean it a little bit so you can see the south of Baja California on the top right corner

This project is a manipulative for kids to understand meteorology and to show the nature and formation of storms and phenomenon that is quick and difficult to understand for a kid.

How I Designed This

You can replicated this model with any picture of a storm you like. You just need a good
picture of the storm you like to make a 3D model out of.

You then upload the file to embossify and generated the STL. At this point you could pay the 5$ fee to have a higher resolution model that is optional

You then upload your model in the slicer software of your choice and print it on your 3D printer.

Project : Hurricane Patricia

Objectives: Students will learn the physical aspect of a storm. Research atmospheric phenomenons from our planet and visualize details of the atmosphere from the perspective of space.

Audiences: 3rd to 5th grade

Preparation: Students will need research any storm of their choice, they have to know the conditions in which a storm is form, they can make a list of the last 10 or more notable storms in the area and research their intensity. Students have to know how the storms are name and why and how a storm intensity is measure.

Steps.

Start the project by letting students investigated notable storms that hit the area. Have them research their names and their intensity.
Make a list of all the storms the students came up with in their research.
Assign each student (or pair of students) a storm form the list they research. Make each student look for satellite images of the storm they where assign. Choose 5 photos and save them on your computer
Using the webpage embossify teach the students to upload an generated an stl file of the storm they where assign. Students should covert to stl all five pictures they choose in step 3 and save each individual stl file with the name of the storm and the number of the picture.
Using the slicing software of your 3D printer make students upload each model from step 4. They have to choose one of the 5 models to print. This could be whatever model they like the best, where you can see the storm arms and storm eye more clearly, or the one that have distinct geographical features.
Print each model.
While each model is being print (supposing it could take more that a day) Have students prepare a small presentation of each storm. They can focus their presentation on the economical or social impact of the storm and complement their presentation with ground images of the storm.

Results: At the end students can look at all the storms in other of intensity and examine physical aspect of the storm. They can touch and make a list of the different characteristics of the storms depending on their intensity.
