Vertical Grow System

Hello everyone,

I’m new to 3d printing and OpenSCAD so do be kind with your comments. I am submitting to you a customizable 3d vertical plant grow platform. The OpenSCAD file can be customized for size, number of stems, thickness, etc.

I am trying to start a discussion to see if using 3d printing for such a project is a viable option by asking the following questions:

Is there a recommended “food safe” PLA product that can be used?
Can the tower support the weight of plants over a height of 6 feet?
Can the tower support the stretch if hung?
Is the cost of printing this project worth while?
Are there recommended printing settings for the thickness of the walls? The inserts?
What is the best way to attach each section together? Thread? Tie-wrap? Both?

Feel free to expand on the idea and make suggestions.
