Star Wars X-wing: AT-ST and conversion kit

I wish FFG would make ground vehicles for the X-wing miniatures game, but so far they have not. This set of files will allow you to add AT-STs to your game. They have been a lot of fun for Epic/scenario/just for fun style games. (I've been using Attack 1, Defense 1, Hull 2, Focus action only, 0 and all the 1's for movement.)

First, you’ll need the X-Wing style base. It has the same dimensions as the FFG 'small' fighter base. The 90 degree lines are for checking firing arc. The posts in back hold the ID tag.

Second you'll need an AT-ST model. There are several beautiful models available online but none of them would print cleanly for me at 1:270 scale - they had /too much/ detail. So I created my own model and included it here. I’ll be the first to tell you that it is missing much of the detail of the larger models, but on the tabletop in this small size they look fine to me.

I was planning to print a bunch of these for my game and I don’t want them to look exactly the same. There are 6 different leg positions to choose from. The head is a separate piece that needs to be glued on, but this allows you to build each one slightly different. If you are truly ambitious you can file the neck a little bit so the head is looking up or down.

All models are to be printed at 100% scale.
The flight base is printed bottom down, no supports.
The head is printed with the guns pointing up, no supports.
The legs are printed with the feet flat on the print bed and supports turned on. Normally I hate cleaning off supports but gluing and pinning thin little legs to the body was not that appealing, so I went with the lesser of two evils. At least they are small.

One other note, I had better results printing the AT-ST heads in groups of two or more. As the extruder nozzle moves from one individual part to the next it gives the plastic time to cool down and solidify between layers. (On my first ‘test print’ of a single head, the tall, skinny chin gun turned into a blob of plastic.)

Finally, I included a 1.25" tall cylinder should you decide to use a different model. First, place the cylinder on the virtual build plate of your printing software. Then put the AT-ST model on the build plate. Keep adjusting the scale of the AT-ST until the top of the cylinder is at the top of the model's head. Finally, delete the cylinder and print. This way you know your AT-ST will be 1.25" tall. This is the correct scale for games of X-wing.
[An AT-ST is listed as 8.6 meters tall, I will leave you to do the math yourself. Note that the leg position makes the model taller or shorter so 1.25 is a rough number.]
