Description

I printed this with PLA unsupported, although it needs cooling on the very last layers for how quick and close together they are. ABS should work too. The files include high, medium, and low resolution models. I printed from the high resolution one, but the lower resolutions may work just fine and should be easier for most software to work with.

Usage: Start with one end of your coil wire sticking down through the center, and bend over a short bit that comes out. Then at the top of the cone spiral, begin winding the wire on to the spiral groove track while pulling to keep tension, and using a free finger or two (from the hand holding the base of this tool) to help hold down the wire wraps that have been made so far. I usually wrap until it's halfway down the cone, which gives me a coil with 1ohm resistance.

When you're done wrapping, unbend the wire hook and slide everything up off the tool. Then you'll need to pull the middle wire to bend this cone-shaped spring inside-out, until when you release it comes back to a flat disc of coil instead of cone-shaped. Or maybe you want cone-shaped, that's an option too. Then bend your middle and edge wires to suitably feed into your posts, and usually there's just enough room to feed a screwdriver in through the center hole for its post, while the outer post is easy enough.

For a wick, one option is to cut a long skinny piece of cotton, and feed it into the spiral and pull it around with tweezers, until your wick is all throughout the coil. Juice it to lay down, and you're done. Make sure when putting the housing back on, that it doesn't hit the coil or wick (this ends up much taller than building small coils down on the sides like normal). But when working properly, a person can see down through the mouthpiece and be looking right on top of a nice flat evenly-heating burner surface, suitable for a variety of juices, waxes, juices with herbs, or even dry herbs perhaps.

Just thought this was something I hadn't really seen, and bending one nicely sure benefited from having a 3D-printed wrapping tool like this. Enjoy.
