Description
The IKEA FLYGEL lamp is an inexpensive Halogen desk lamp. Unfortunately, the support struts are very weak. At best, the lamp would often slowly slip down; and if you put any side pressure on it, the supports would snap.
So, I measured and prepared this replacement. Remove the lamp arm by unscrewing the side bolts all the way on both sides. Use pliers or a dremel to remove the old struts; I used pliers and it was surprisingly easy to snap off the remaining undamaged strut. Then clean it up with a file / sandpaper.
Print TWO of each of these: holder & strut. Place the two struts between the holders (ring faces outward) and glue in place. Wedge the completed support into place - I unplugged the lamp and removed the base to get better access - the half rings rest on the outside of the base. When correctly positioned, glue into place - not absolutely necessary, but it is definitely more secure this way.
The new supports go all the way around, so not only are they stronger, but they hold the lamp in place better.
The Inventor files are attached if you want to make changes or modify for a similar lamp.
