Description
This Thing is a circuit board holder for an Arduino Mega 2560. I wanted something that would hold the board and protect the contacts on the back from shorting out while I was working on my project components at the bench. I made bases for my other circuit boards as well. Then, when all the boards were playing well together, I attached them to my project frame with mounting screws through the base frame. (And, as you would expect, I was glad they were easy to detach and return to the bench for further debugging.)
The holes in the base are 3 mm. The diameter of the hole in each post is 2.5 mm, which I find convenient because M2.5 screws, or SAE #2-56 screws, or #4 sheetmetal screws, self tap threads in the post and hold well. However, the headers on the Arduino Mega are too close together for the heads on the #4 sheetmetal screws.
This Thing was created with my customizable Thing:
http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1370889 which also allows the creation of more complex arrangements. For example, you can design a base which holds two circuit boards because you can create up to 10 support posts.
[If you need a base for a more normal circuit board -- with mounting holes arranged at the corners of a rectangle -- you will find it simpler to use my "Base with Four Posts" Customizable Thing: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1375390 ]
