OpenSCAD Message Boxes

These message boxes are inspired by the "message heart box" of Thing 6368. I have modified and updated it to include the newer OpenSCAD "text" feature and use of font files. The heart shape has been extruded from a DXF template, and I have added a star shape as well. Both boxes have form-fitting lids. Both boxes can be made in single extrusion or dual extrusion versions, as shown in the photos. It keeps the feature of the original "message heart box" in which the text can be either cut into the surface or standing out, controlled by a parameter in the OpenSCAD file.

The zip file "message_box.zip" contains all the sources to create the DXF template used in OpenSCAD.

The font used in the OpenSCAD file and shown in the pictures is "Alex Brush Font" and is a free font that can be downloaded from a number of places; just Google "Alex Brush Font".

The OpenSCAD files "HeartBoxDual.scad" and "StarBoxDual.scad" are the primary sources and should be used for both single- and dual-extruder versions. "HeartBoxDual1.scad" and "StarBoxDual1.scad" are the additional files needed to make the second file for dual extrusion. For dual extrusion printing, the first file should be set to use cut-out lettering for both the box and lid. The second file wil fill these cut-outs with the lettering. If only using a single extruder to print, only the first file is used, and the text may be chosen as cut-out or relief.
