Description

This is a lightweight case for the OpenBCI board. This compact case can be printed flat in two pieces. You can also join it with other parts (either physically or digitally) to cleanly integrate BCI functionality in various form factors.

This project came about as a result of a need to protect the OpenBCI circuit board during use and transport. It was further developed during some experimentation integrating the board into stylized headpieces.

This case is designed for the 32-bit board. It is open on the top permitting access to buttons, but cutouts would have to be made if using the GPIO pins or the 8-bit board. Expect future versions of this design to be integrated into the next version of the OpenBCI UltraCortex EEG headset.

In conceptualizing the addition of a battery case and feet, the case began to remind me of the US moon lander spacecraft. Running with this inspiration, I created two concepts featuring the modified OpenBCI case (shown as the cover photo). The head lander uses the feet as a cluster of electrodes for the 4-channel Ganglion board. The saucer is the logical alternative version, with a clean design that conceals its function.
