SEIKO Digital A039 Module Battery Carrier

Hi,

This is a replacement battery carrier for the SEIKO A039 Digital Watch.

The original breaks into multiple pieces when exposed to battery acid and many of them cannot hold the battery in place.

This part WILL require some assembly, plastic welding and hand fitting.

This should ONLY be installed by a watchmaker or watch technician, as it's quite complex and a lot of assembly and fitting is required.

You will need to fix any circuit track issues. In this case most of the track was damaged, so I have soldered on a thin brass sheet between the two contact pad areas. This should be done with the lowest heat possible.

You will need to file a groove into the bottom of the part to fit the battery tang.

The original battery tang will need to be cut away from the old part and plastic welded into the new part. This can be done with some scrap 3DP plastic and a soldering iron and is very easy to do. I held the tang in place with some kapton tape while I attached it.

You will also need to add a bulge to the side of the part closest the middle of the PCB, this will hold it off the PCB and prevent the part drooping when the battery is installed. I did this via plastic welding as it was much easier to do than any other way.

The sides of the part will need to be filed/cut down slightly. Due to the size of the part, I've added more material than is required so it prints properly. If the holes aren't entirely formed, that's fine and won't affect the part, but they may need to be enlarged slightly.

Test fit, test fit and test fit again. You will need to adjust it to suit your case/movement. I had to remove some material out of the part to clear the crystal oscillator and also to get it flush with the side of the PCB otherwise it fouled the case. You may also need to remove a little to clear the speaker.

This is by no means a perfect model and someone may choose to clean it up or re-design it, but it did the job on a current repair I have. The size of the part presents some challenges but I think this would be the first part of it's kind in the wild now.
