With the new Amazon Echo Dot coming in at a measly $50 bones, I wanted to find a way to get closer to the original Echo in sound quality while staying way away from it's $179 price point. I've created stand that lets you drop in an Anker SoundCore Mini upside down and place the amazon Echo Dot on top. For around the price of the original amazon Echo Dot, you can upgrade the sound and keep the nice form factor of the original Amazon Echo.
After printing and testing, everything fits great. The sound is definitely an improvement from the built in speaker, and the form factor is nice as well. There is a picture of a micro usb y cable that can provide power to both the speaker and the Echo Dot from the Echo's single usb power supply. So far it's working. Here is the list of items needed to complete this hack:
Amazon Echo Dot: $50 - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01DFKC2SO/ref=cm_sw_su_dp
Anker SoundCore Mini: $22.99 - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01DFKC2SO/ref=cm_sw_su_dp
Micro USB Y Cable - $5.69 - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01DFKC2SO/ref=cm_sw_su_dp
