Description

This is a project to make a lamp from a rhinoceros head.
I've used a 3D scan done by users of the Rhinoceros Sculpture in front of the Orsay Museum in Paris (https://www.myminifactory.com/fr/object/rhinoceros-at-the-museum-d-orsay-paris-6314).
I've extracted the head, and mix it with screw design (screw done thanks to this exellent tutorial for sketchup:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0F0xBh9fi5o ) in meshmixer.
The base is not yet finished, but will receive (or you can help me to make it), a LED lamp inside. I'm about to make some electronic design and will upload it when it'll done...

In summary the process is:

  • using a 3D scan of the sclupture
  • cut the head via Meshmixer
  • design the screw in sketchup
  • merge parts with Meshmixer (check well "make solid" in the junction sites of screw/head is well done)
  • design the other parts of screw and base of the lamp in sketchup. Let 0,5mm space between pieces (otherwise when it'll not be easy to move pieces between each other)
  • use in meshmixer the ability to make support (I like it very much - you'll have both designs in the object - with or without support)
  • print in PLA (take around 20hours for the head, 11 for the base)

I've added a led lamp inside, 12V, very easy.

thanks
