Update 19 Mar 2017 Some people complain that the bracket for the fan is fragile. Redesigned both the shroud & bracket to give more strength for the fixing area. Also added a slot for the fixing nut/s and made the adjustable area bigger. Files to use are FixingBracketV7 & MainShroudV8Round Update 7 Dec 2016 Added 2 files - MainShroudV6.stl & FixingBracketV5.stl. These files allow for two screws to be used for fixing to provide a more secure and stable fixing mechanism. Note: This shroud may not fit with the original 33mm throat as there is not much clearance with this throat between the end of the X bracket and the bed. It fits perfectly with anyone who has upgraded to a 50mm throat. When my Geeetech Al. extruder throat got blocked, I purchased a 50mm replacement. The original was 33mm and only Geeetech sold these at a premium. What this did was give me an additional height for the end of the nozzle of about 17mm. This also gave me a bigger gap between the end of the Z axis bearing bracket and the bed. My original design used a normal fan with a circular shroud. But given that these fans are so under powered the cooling was inadequate. I read that Radial fans gave more air output. Also the design of the shroud in front of the extruder, hid my nozzle when printing. To solve these 2 problems and now that I had the height to play around with, I designed this fan shroud to fit to the BACK of the X axis steel bracket and also to use a Radial fan. After much testing this is the model I have come up with and fitted & it does push more air with less noise. This fan whine was more noticeable ever since the printer itself went silent after fitting these: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1798758 The bracket is designed to allow X movement for adjustment and the fan shroud itself allows adjustment in the Z direction so that an ideal location can be attained. Since anyone printing this obviously needs cooling, and PLA does not behave when not cooled, I also included a dummy "helper" object. Sketchup files included in case you need to tweak the design.
