Description
Adapter for mounting a geared NEMA17 stepper motor to a standard NEMA17 stepper mounting bracket. Specifically, I designed this to mount a Zyltech 17HD48002H-C5.18 to a NEMA17 adapter like this (no affiliation) using four M3x5mm socket head cap screws.
For added security, I added threaded brass inserts like these to the four outside holes (those that fasten the adapter to the bracket). To do the same, enlarge the holes using a 4 mm (or similar) drill bit, and press the inserts into the holes using a soldering iron.
Coupled with a 12 mm stainless steel filament drive gear (8 mm bore) like this and an aluminum extruder body like this, you'll have a fairly substantial extruder that will never strip, can print reliably at lower temperatures (and higher rates), and that will be almost completely immune to hotend clogging. Since installing this combo months ago, I haven't experienced a single print failure, and the quality of my prints has been much more consistent (than with an ungeared direct-drive extruder).
Tips, while never expected, are always appreciated. Thanks!
