Description
This is currently a work in progress and the X axis rail mount is a mash-up of 2 mounts to create this 1 that will convert the X axis on an Anet A8 to a more solid 2020 extruded beam.
Please note my converted part is labelled anet_a8_2020_x_axis_conversion.stl all the other parts are created by the original maker. You will also need both of the converted mounts as 1 is mirrored for the opposite side
I combined the z mount from http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1718315 and the z mount from http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1285301 along with a bit of tidying up to create the converted mount
Update: Initial/prototype converted mount printed and picture uploaded. Z axis holes are in the correct position for the Anet A8 (late 2016/beginning 2017 version) and the height is equivalent to 2 LM8UU bearings so should work nicely with 2 Igus Drylin equivalents.
Update 7th Feb,
I have created a smaller x axis mount that only requires 1 LM8UU linear bearing and also made 1 wall slightly thinner to allow the mount to sit the 2020 extrusion behind the Z axis rods and not interfere with the printer frame and look a lot tidier. In the next day or 2 I will be getting my 500mm 2020 beam to test all the printed parts onto.
Mostly for my own record I have added an E3D v6 mini gantry mount with 12mm and 18mm sensor mounts from 2 other 'thingies'
Update 8th Feb,
Beam testing today and everything is looking good. On initial tests it looks like the build height could be increased from 240mm to 270mm and as the 2020 beam sits behind the Z axis rods there isn't any immediate impact on the Y axis. Also uploaded a video to youtube showing the smooth movement and due to the way the belt will be tightened there will be zero impact on the Z axis which should help reduce noise and vibration https://youtu.be/8akLz3m-cEQ

Uploaded a different part cooler as I felt the one I was using wasn't close enough to the hotend and was causing cooling issues on prints

After I did my conversion I had found that a hidden issue had arisen with my Z axis which turned out to be faulty couplers which were off-centred. Today I got my replacements through and not only is the initial print much better but I have found especially with this conversion that the printer has become quiet https://youtu.be/ODVt6cMiV10

The way I found that I had an issue with my Z axis was by elimination. On a test print I printed 1 of the floating boats to compare with a previous one (silver) and found the new one was all over the place (it is also the best example of the bad prints). I then looked at my belts whether they were too tight or too loose and they were actually fine and then I noticed what was a bad 'wobble' on the lead screw so I tried to adjust them and whilst a test print did improve slightly there was still a 'wobble' in the Z axis. So I then checked the straightness of the lead screws and they were straight and then I tested the motor shafts for straightness by removing the couplers and they were fine. I then noticed the couplers wouldn't seat straight no matter how hard I tried I got it close but it still 'wobbled'. As it turns out the couplers were off-centred on the 5mm hole side as tested with a 5mm drill bit held in place with the grub screws. I then received my new couplers today (15th Feb) and tested them out and found they worked as they should as shown in the picture of 2 tubes 1 being the original with original couplers and the other with the new couplers and both were printed at 200c/60c and both at 280mm high and a 0.2mm layer height. So from this elimination I feel some of the common Z axis wobble is actually down to faulty couplers.
