Description
I bought these little plastic storage bins for a couple dollars, but wanted a small rack to put them on. So I made this thing using HB pencils (round 7mm body).
There are 3 parts, print 6 pieces of each. Remove the eraser ends (including metal) from 15 pencils, and have 4 pencils with them still attached (19 pencils total).
The 4 pencils with erasers form the vertical legs.
Insert the pencils through the printed parts inthe obvious manner, taking care to get them all aligned appropriately (that is, the pieces on the legs should be at the same height, the pieces in the middle all need to be in the middle.
Assemble it togethor without fasteners firstso you can tweak alignment. I have put holes for screws on each cross piece, just drill into the pencil and insert a screw, I ended up only putting screws in the middle cross pieces, it holds it. There are smaller holes in the plastic parts to accept a pin or nail, I only used 1 of each of these holes per leg-piece just to hold it from sliding down the leg, drilled out, and inserted a pin of the appropriate length.
Best to do your drilling on some paper as the graphite makes a mess.
Simple, but works and a box of 20 pencils is only a couple bucks.
You could use it with the rubber as feet, or upside down with the rubber as tops, whatever fits your needs.
