My first full 3D printable led clock case. I am still working on it, just wanted to share the idea, since I discovered alot of things and ideas made by other users.
I am still test printing it to verify if everything prints fine and fits together.

The back plane (top) will contain the led strips (60 leds/m), 5 rows with 6 leds each, and each cell will be lighted up according to the time to display.

The hardware, in my case a ESP8266, will stay outside the case to have the clock more modular since it can then be controlled by different kinds of ESP8266 modules or Arduinos.

Update 2017-04-03:
My proof of concept. :-)
Printed a first version to verify printing quality and led control. The green filament is not the best for coloring the time to display, using just white for this version. My daugther loves green!
The case does not snap together as expected, due to the solder points (I am not really good on soldering), need to adapt the required space at the outter border where the led strips ends.
The screew holes are not tight enough, need to make them little bit smaller than 3mm diameter.

Update 2017-04-14:
Finally I found the time to update the models and print a new version.
White is much better for what I was aiming for.
The stl files with suffix "v2" do have optimized holes for the screws and the main case does have more space on the outter border for solder (blubs) in case someone is also not that talented as I am in soldering.
The clock now shows hours (red), minutes (green) and seconds (blue) as also AM/PM in a different color. The colors for the AM/PM might change as soon as I did some more testing.
Printing was done in 2h53m for the top/cover, and 11h53m for the body part.
The body part I prepared in simplyfy3d like 0.2mm layer height for the first 2mm (front part), 0.1mm layer height for the numbers (about 3,2mm thickness) and 0.3mm layer for the rest of the case. My nozzle is a 0.4mm.
Next steps will be the elecrtonic part and a case for it. Stay tuned! :-)
