Gigantic Bastard CNC

Why 'Gigantic Bastard'? It's really big, and it's the illegitimate offspring of the two most prominent printed CNC projects: the MPCNC and the Root 2 CNC. I created this mostly because I already had an oversized MPCNC and needed more rigidity. This thing is built like a tank, and is approximately a $50 upgrade if you already have a 25.4mm MPCNC.

This project is no longer being updated. If you are just starting a build, I recommend my latest full 4x8' plywood sheet CNC instead.

I have added 23.5mm and 25mm versions of the files. I have not tested these, but they should be correct. Use at your own risk.

A bit of info on the pieces:

spacer.stl

This is a rounded spacer used in place of washers to allow 5/16 bolts to be used in place of the M8 ones in the Root 2.1 carriage.

standoff_v2.stl

This is used to support the round tubes. You will need to drill a hole and use an M4 tap, then screw in an M4 screw about every 8-12 inches. This is the most important part of this mod -- if you don't user screws in the support, the CNC will flop around.

jig.stl

This is a jig to help you drill the holes for the standoffs. It works best if you tighten down the tubes, drill a hole, then slide to the next position and repeat. Remember that all the holes need to line up perfectly. If you mess up, just move over a bit and try again.

sideMount.stl

This piece mounts to the MPCNC rollers and to the gantry side pieces. The 3 holes fit 1/4" bolts.

zaxis.stl

This is a modified MPCNC Z axis that mounts to the Root 2.1 carriage.

tubemount.stl and tubemount_mirror.stl

These are the mounts for the round tubes and the belts.

This is the wooden panel that joins the MPCNC sliders to the Root 2.1 short axis.
