Summary

Filament grommet designed to brace the walls or lid of a plastic tub or tote, Center hole is 3mm diameter and requires a short section of bowden tubing for a low friction "air tight" seal. Parts are affixed together either side of the container wall / lid with 3x 8mm M3 bolts (no nuts required although can be used with longer bolts).

The seal is not strictly airtight as there will be a gap between the filament and the inside of the bowden tubing and the act of removing filament from the container will cause air to be pulled inside, but will be more than sufficient even for water soluble support materials as long as the container contains a desiccant such as silica gel.

Requirements

Plastic tote / tub will well fitting air tight lid.
3x 8mm M3 bolts
Bowden tube (3mm external, 1.75 internal)
Needle file, small drill bit
Double sided tape.

Assembly Instructions

Place bottom / inner part against inside wall of suitable seal-able container (walls or lid), mark and drill 4x 3mm holes.

Insert the 3x 8mm M3 bolts and bowden tube into top section, partially screw in so they are flush with the base. Holes can be enlarged if needed with a needle file however keep in mind all are supposed to be a tight fit. Inserting the bowden tube is the hardest part as it's slippery, gripping with a cotton cloth helps (if you resort to pliers, cut off and discard any crimped / deformed bowden tube).

Place both parts either side of the container wall and tighten together using bolts, a little double sided tape between the parts and container will improve the seal.

The bowden tubing can be cut to just match the size of the grommet or run all the way from your container to the extruder.

Place filament on suitable spool holder inside container with some silica gel and close.
