For those who are fans of simulation, either planes, car, truck or anything, i hope you know the software FaceTrackNoIR.
This software allows you to achieve the same results as a TrackIR v5, but much much cheaper!
For those who don't know it, it basically allows you to control the head of your ingame character, such as the pilot, or in arma 1 / arma 2, the soldier, and gives much more immersion in the game.
All you need is your webcam, and you pretty face. But the face tracking is quite heavy for the processor, so i decided to give a try to IR led tracking... and it's fantastic! far more reactive, and no more than 5 to 10% of CPU usage.
I use a playstation eye (17euros on amazon) (which is able to perform 120fps!) with a piece of cut floppy disk (to filter pass the IR).
The annoying part is to remove the IR filter of the camera. I did it, but the PS Eye has it applied on a lens, which is used to keep the focus.

So by removing it, you go out of focus. To correct that, I ordered a varifocus for like 20 euros on ebay, with a 3d printed M20 mount : http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:83754
I ordered some LEDs from ebay (you just need 3 of them) like these:http://www.ebay.com/itm/140509504949?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649
the battery I use is a tiny 300 mAh 1S nano-tech:

and it gives more than 5hours of autonomy.
then some wires, with shrink tubes, mount the 3 LEDs on the trackClip_Simple_part1, cable them in serie on a li-po or li-ion battery, and you're done!!
