Description
Now I realize that there are MANY versions of an Extruder Cooling cover for the Tronxy X3 but I am a bit of a minimalist so I created this. This only replaces the stock metal cover that comes with the X3, it does not have a part cooling, leveling collar or end stop adapter. I needed this because the stock adaptor also cooled the extruder heater which basically means the X3 was fighting with itself when heating up the extruder. I didn't notice it with the Melzi controller, but the stock Repetier EEPROM code I used when setting up my Ramps controller noticed it and kept on decoupling the heaters. They probably disabled that feature with their version of Repetier EEPROM, stupid really.
The advantage of this cover is all the air is forced to flow around the heat sink fins. Since there is space behind the heat sink, because of the standoff screws, there is plenty of space for the air to flow. I used a thermistor to measure the heat of the sink when the extruder was at very high temperatures and it registered a cool 32 °C, just a bit higher than room temperature.
I do plan on adding some upgrades to this design for part cooling, leveling collar or end stop adapter but they will be as bolt on parts so you won't need to reprint and waste material.
with my hatred of overhangs, I designed this with very gentle ones, you should be ok in that respect.
