X-Ray structure of an electrophilic iodine reagent for trifluoromethylthiolation

This electrophilic iodine reagent for trifluoromethylthiolation was previously reported to be hypervalent: Xinxin Shao, Xueqiang Wang, Tao Yang, Long Lu, and Qilong Shen, Angew. Chem. Int. Ed. 2013, 52, 3457 –3460.

In contrast, we could show that the molecule has a thioperoxide bond instead of the hypervalent benziodoxole motif. See upcoming article in Angewandte Chemie:
