Coffee Stencil - Heart - New Style

Edit 7/3/2017: Stencil Update! I've uploaded the new version of the stencil, with a resized opening, sturdy handles, and an identification icon on the handle itself! I'm also keeping the original file just in case some people don't like handles that stay on, and icons for easy identification!

Edit 6/20/2017: Added a new set of photographs (blue backdrop) using a higher contrast medium (cinnamon) with a higher-contrast base (a different creamer). The previous images (red backdrop) used cocoa which seemed pretty but certainly not as high-contrast as the cinnamon. Plus, you get to see me using the metal "tea bag" thing. I really don't know what they're called. They're certainly a whole heck of a lot easier to use, one-handed, and a lot less messy!

First things first: this is not a remix of any particular coffee stencil. I've been using these things prior to my use of Thingiverse, 3D printing, and 3D design. When I saw a few coffee stencils here on Thingiverse, the first thing I thought was: none of these fit my wife's Starbucks travel mugs or cups! That sucked.

To quote GlaDOS from Portal:

Let's be honest. Neither one of us knows what that thing does. Just put it in the corner and I'll deal with it later.

I thought about it on and off for the past couple of months, until finally, I realized I was ready to take out my digital calipers and measure a few of the favorite travel mugs I have kicking around.

The first one I made and printed was for the Starbucks 16 oz single-walled tumbler. It has an outside diameter of 85mm, so I made the base 90mm, pulled back two or three millimeters to make a "lip" so the stencil covers the top completely, and also decided everyone likes a handle: even right- and left-handed people!

Then, I did the impossible: I added a hole for a cuphook! I know, I know...design challenges are tricky, but I felt up to the challenge, and when it came out and fit on the cuphook on my grill, I was so happy. But the grill is not where it's going to stay, so I brought it back inside, and threw it in a drawer. Not before I tested it out, though!

As you can see by the photos I've shared above, this stencil works perfectly. The heart is huge, and because of the perfect fit and lip, once you place the stencil, you can use both of your hands to A) put contrasting powder (milk, powdered sugar, cocoa, cinnamon, nutmeg, you name it!) into a sieve, and use the other hand to B) run a spoon around the inside of the sieve to let the powder fall out, lightly, and perfectly, on top of the stencil, so only the heart remains below.

It's simple but effective technology.

If you have a different size cup, mug, tumbler, just post a comment here giving me the measured outside diameter of the cup. That's it! I usually add a few mm "lip" which should work for any flat-ish surface. If you need more wiggle room for curves, just add a few more mm. As always, if you create an "I Made One" and share pictures of how it doesn't fit, with the stencil and vessel in the shot, we can probably figure it out, and make you something your partner will appreciate! If you want me to put your name in the .STL file, I'll totally do that, thanking you for helping me make something useful for more people.

Lastly, if you want a different opening (a star, a moon, doggy paws, whatever!) just let me know! If you can do a Google Search and find me a link to a vector image (best) or a clean raster image like JPG or whatever, sharing that will help a lot. It helps to know what you want/like exactly, and having a source image to work from (especially SVG, because those are ready-to-go) makes it easier for me to get another Thing posted especially for you!
