Description

This is a remixed version of Carl Feniak's 'direct drive' gantry for C-Bot/D-Bot printers, allowing for the mounting of the Bondtech BMG extruder. The main changes were the removal of the built-in direct drive system on top, the extension of the bottom heatbreak bracket, and the extension of the very top holes to stick over the new extruder. Plus, an alternate version!

Pro's:

  • You get to use a Bondtech BMG extruder on your C/D-bot!
  • If you go with the 'frontPlateAlt', you'll get 50mm of z-height back!

Con's:

  • You'll loose about 14mm on Y, based on how much more this sticks out.

Two versions are available

  • frontPlate : This has the extruder mounted to the top, and the heatbreak (I'm using a E3D-v6 Volcano) mounted to the bottom, with a bowden tube in-between. This was most similar to my original setup.
  • frontPlateAlt : This is designed to have the heatbreak mounted directly to the extruder itself. Based on how much the Bondtech sticks out from the gantry, I discovered the E3D-v6 heatbreak and hotend will clear the gantry, meaning, no more bowden-tube extension needed. Note, the volcano nozzle will stick down below the gantry by a few mm, allowing it to still print a-ok, but I am unsure if a 'normal' E3d hotend will be long enough for this configuration.

I also included a copy of the accompanying backplate & 'groove mount clamp' files that Carl designed.

You will need:

  • For either config, you'll need three M3x40mm socket head bolts. The BMG ships with 35mm bolts, and they're not long enough go through the printed pieces :-(
  • For the 'frontPlate', you'll need a bowden tube 94mm long, to run from the BMG into the heatbreak. You'll need a bowden adapter to plug into the base of the Bondtech.
