Parametrized Magnetic Bit Holder In 2 Parts

No more misplaced bits! Sandwiched design with strong 8mm magnets. You don\'t have to glue the magnets in place (and thus spoil them) if you don\'t want to.

The supplied .stl files are made to fit two rows of five magnets, put together in pairs for increased strength (20 magnets in total). All parameters can be changed in OpenSCAD.

I'm working on a experimental version which clips together, needing neither glue nor screws, hopefully. We'll see how that works out...

This is the first time I use OpenSCAD, how did I do?

Instructions

I don\'t have a printer, yet, so these instructions are just how I imagine it coming together.

Put the magnets together two and two, and align them as illustrated. - They will probably sit better, and are easier to handle if they all have the same polarity.

Put the printed bottom part on a metal surface and insert the magnets. - The magnets will hold the piece in place. If the magnets don\'t want to cooperate, you can use a tiny piece of tape.

Put on the printed top. You can choose to glue the pieces together, or use screws. I think I\'d prefer to use screws and attach it directly to a wooden shelf above my workspace.

Alternatively you could simply superglue a magnet directly into the hole in the top part, and not print the bottom part at all. It might be necessary to make the hole a bit deeper in OpenSCAD though.

Be warned that these magnets are pretty strong, so be thoughtful of what you put them on.
