Description
The LCD (20 characters by 4 rows) has been mounted inside an alloy box. I needed a spacer so the LCD frame would be flush with the exterior of the alloy box (2 mm thick) and also wanted a way to mount the LCD as unobtrusively as possible.
By printing the spacer (complete with indentation for header pins) with holes for the LCD mounting holes, and chassis mounting holes that were outside the LCD PCB, I was able to use small self tapping screws to first mount the LCD PCB to the spacer. I could then cut the aperture in the lid of the box for the LCD to poke through. Because the chassis holes for the spacer mount were still accessible, I could then drill four small pilot holes for the mounting holes to mark their positions. These were then enlarged for the screws. This allowed the LCD to be mounted only using small screws and for the mounts also to be drilled easily.
The project is an Arduino Uno+GPS/SD card+Temp sensor to measure water temperature along a 22.8km lake. http://www.laketyersbeach.net.au/laketempprofile.html
