Description

This is a 3D model of the Hurricane Katrina at its maximum intensity at 12:45pm CDT on Aug. 28, 2005. It was created by NASA by processing visible and thermal infrared images acquired from NOAA’s GOES 12 satellites. At that moment, Katrina was a Category 5 storm on the Saffir–Simpson hurricane wind scale (SSHWS), with the maximum winds of 175 mph (280 km/h).

This is a very easy model to print and it will look great on your desk. There are 2 sizes to choose from: large (195x195x21mm) and small (97x97x10mm).

If you would like to support the victims of the recent hurricanes Harvey, Irma, and Maria, please consider making a donation to Heart to Heart International (www.hearttoheart.org). You can also get a finished, cold-casted copy of this model from our etsy shop and we'll donate 10% of the sale price directly to Heart to Heart International.

Finished model available at: https://www.etsy.com/listing/573823809/category-5-hurricane

We hope that this beautiful model will become another wonderful item on your desk, shelf or stand, that will remind you of the beauty and power of mother nature. It may also spark a conversation about storm formation and the science behind this model. And finally it will be a beautiful reminder of how we can support each other by sharing and giving back.
